PCB Design Software
Finding a piece of software to do printed circuit board design is much easier than it was a few years ago. If you’re a low budget hobbiest looking to get that home brewed circuit onto a circuit board there are plenty of options to chose from. PCB manufacturers are now releasing their own pcb design software to aide you in completing your board design in no time at all. Be warned though, they will keep their hands on your gerber files until you complete a purchase for the board.
If you’re feeling adventurous and want to manufacture your own board then you may need an open source package so you can get the gerber data. We’ll do our best to compile the latest and greatest open source pcb software packages available to date.
Also there are plenty of high dollar packages out there to help you out with any high speed pcb design challenges. Their autorouters are sophisticated enough to handle the most challenging board designs out there. Orcad / Allegro are two packages worth noting in the high dollar category. Something a little cheaper might land you in the Protel / Altium design software.
